a gift from my garden

look what I found in our garden yesterday? I am not sure what these flowers are called, but they are spectacular! anyone know their name?

    They're so beautiful. What a colour!! Are they some kind of lily..?

    They are amaryllis! They're originally from South America and are often grown as indoor potted plants becuase they can bloom in the winter. They also come in all shades of pink and white, even striped. [My Dutch father is in the international mailorder gardening business ;)]
