Palm Springs

Mabel and I are heading out on a mini girls vacation today with Hannah to Palm Springs.  It's going to be an average of 40 (104F) degrees while we're there. Ooh la la!  But luckily there's a pool, that we'll be spending lots of time in :)

It'll be the longest time we've spent away from Bryce, but, it's only 4 days... Hopefully we'll all survive without each other :)

Hope you all have wonderful weekends!

I took this one this weekend about 45 mins out of Fresno, where Bryce rode his first mountain bike race today in about 5 years.  More on that in another post :)

bump envy?

Yesterday it was time to go shopping for some new maternity items... I rotate between 2 pairs of jeans and try to mix up the tops & jackets I have, but it's bad enough that I feel like a fatty let alone a frumpy fatty...

Bryce, being the patient husband stood outside while I squeezed myself into some new comfy options. and then he got bored. I guess. and decided to see what it feels like to be pregnant...

for those of you who have never entered a maternity store (which was me until a few months ago) they have these fake bellies that you can use to try clothes on over the top of to see how long they'll fit you for...

here's Bryce test driving the bump...
the pair of us looked so ridiculous I had to snap a shot - the sales woman must have wondered what we were doing in there....

poodle (and pooch) parade

on sunday we headed out to the annual poodle parade which as it turns out wasn't exclusive to poodles, there were doggies of all shapes and sizes all over the place!

Hannah with mckenzie, max and cooper poses for a picture while we waited for our turn on the red carpet
gino goes head to head with a french bulldog
we got bored while we waited, there must have been 150 dogs all lined up to strut their stuff, so I thought it would be a good idea to get a cute group photo of gino, charlotte, cooper, mckenzie and max sitting all in a row... here's how that turned out
this was the only cat at the parade - a sphinx cat at that (hairless) and their owners really got into it all dressed up as vampires... I must say I like their umbrella though - I have never seen an umbrella built for 2 (or 3 in this case)
Hannah and Max (awww)
and it was their turn on the red carpet
lots of dogs had to be helped up those stairs, but not little Max, he's a determined little guy
they worked the catwalk and did a trick where Max jumps through Hannah's leg and the crowd was very impressed!
quick stop for the puparazzi (I'm so funny... :P)
dog modeling is so exhausting...
Cody and Gino were up next and he was almost the biggest dog there (so many small fluffy types)
all for the reward of the treat though, hey Gino?awww
ok that's enough now...
this poodle was dressed up like Mr T, I think
we won a $30 gift voucher to a local pet store in a raffle - yay mckenzie!
and now it was Coop's turn, and we were determined to show up clever Max with a combo of tricks :) first high 5
then shake
dance
and then through the leg - yay!
quick photo opand then it was McKenzie's turn which her trick was just making it through without getting too scared (the poor skittish girl)... family portrait
and then they're outta there!
it was so hot so we didn't stick around for much after that, so we cooled down with some frozen yogurt yumminess

happy friday!

lots of rest and relaxation is called for this weekend in our house. bryce has strep throat and has spend the best part of this week in bed, the poor darling :( and I have spent the best part of this week working my butt off on this event I've been working on...

sleeping, watching movies, and generally lounging around sounds like the perfect weekend to me!

what are you getting up to?

I hope you have a wonderful weekend whatever it is you're up to.

:)

yosemite, half dome hike

have you climbed Half Dome in Yosemite?
we are planning to do it this summer. we are going to hike up with our tent etc, leave it at the campground up there and then continue on to the top - to take some killer photos I bet!

but after stumbling across this hazards of half dome page I must say, I'm a little scared to say the least. Bryce tells me I'll be fine... that the fact that I can do about 3 push ups won't be an issue and that they publish websites like that to scare away the masses... but um... there is still that little voice in the back of my mind - I think it's called reason or maybe it's my survival instinct talking.

anyway, I'd love to hear about your experiences - good, bad and otherwise :)

memorial day long weekend - the journey to bass lake

memorial day long weekend Bryce and I packed up the canoe onto the campervan, and headed to Bass Lake to go camping with Melita and Cody
these two got new seatbelts - which they weren't too happy about, but they were safe and sound in their comfy beds
an hour or so in it was time for a rest stop
and after a few pics we were back on the road
the golden hills and perfectly blue sky made it hard not to take a million pictures...we couldn't have asked for more beautiful weather (I have not edited these photos at all - the colours were just that vivid)
and here's what they do with all that golden grass...
driving, driving...and then disaster struck. this particular stretch was extremely windy, and as we drove over a hill the canoe moved on top of the roof - which, if you've ever carried a canoe on a car you'll know, it's not good. we had lost one of the supports, and then another... so we pulled over and started the search to find them since we couldn't properly secure the canoe without them...so off we trekked for about 2 miles back from where we'd just come, and we found one of them, but the other one was long gone... these two were happy for the walk at least :)and after walking knee high in the long grasses for what seemed like hours, I came across this guy - have I mentioned my fear and loathing of snakes??? eeeeek!!!
after searching and not finding the second support... we crafted a solution which involved a towel and rope that seemed to hold the canoe in place and we were back on route!
