everything's going my way...

do you ever have one of those perfect days? when everything is going your way?

so far this morning, today has been one of those days for me and I'm hoping it continues right on that way!

I woke up early, without hating the morning (which is my usual anti-morning way of seeing the morning), jumped out of bed and Bryce made me the most delicious coffee, while I checked in online (is that one of the first things you do in the morning too? should there be a support group for that?)

we were out the house by 6:45 and off to the park with Coop & Kenz to watch the sun make it's way across the dewy lawn. after playing ball for about 30mins, back home we trotted where we hung out a load of laundry, and got ready for work at a nicely un-rushed pace (I'm usually the applying mascara while brushing my teeth kinda gal)... something about being productive in the morning, that makes you feel good!

I drove to work with the top down on my car and the cool morning wind in my hair, getting every green light and then one of my 'anthem songs' came on the radio - you know one of those songs that you have to turn up to radio as loud as you can and sing at the top of your voice? and here it is - with the lyrics so you too can sing it at the top of your voice!

this song takes me back to riding my bike around Chicago on beautiful warm sunny days, when I lived there, and life with so much uncertainty for me then it gave me the sense that great things were waiting for me - and how true this turned out to be...

I found this song over at letters to you blog yesterday and have been listening to it over and over... it goes so well with this grey and rainy day so I thought I would share it with you too.

metrically speaking

last week bryce got an early birthday surprise, that I am very proud to say I didn't give away... I usually suck at holding it in and end up giving gifts early since I just can't wait, but this one was a surprise till the end.

I told him that he needed to leave work early and that I would pick him up from work, he didn't realise that there would be a crowd of us and that we were going to see one of our favourite bands :)

the night started at the home of chicken and waffles which I must say I was very intrigued about - were they waffles with chicken inside? but no, fried chicken and waffles side by side on a plate... weird combo, but it was pretty good.
the mac and cheese was particularly good!
hannah had fried chicken, mac and cheese, collard greens and cornmeal bread

then we were off to the fox theater (an awesome venue) to see Metric who were fantastic! bryce and I saw them in Toronto (where they are from) in 2005, when we lived there and have loved them ever since.

When Bonnie asked if I wanted to go see Bon Jovi with her and of course I said "yes!" I bought the tickets a few months ago, put the date on my Blackberry, and thought we were all set. Unfortunately we forgot the correct day and both thought the concert was on a Tuesday, not a Monday so when I got a panicked voicemail from Bonnie this Monday letting me know we f'd the dates up I raced to get ready. Thankfully we were right on time and were even able to catch most of the opening act and had a grerat time watching the show. I only know a few of Bon Jovi's songs, but I do know how hot John Bon Jovi is from watching him in a few television shows. He's so cute!

Last night Melita and I went to see Kylie Minogue at the Fox Theatre in Oakland even though I spent most of my day in bed sick, I dragged myself out and had a great time despite just about losing my voice... I have seen her before but only in a large stadium venue so seeing her at the charming Fox Theatre was so nice! I must say her music seemed to be very tailored to the American crowd as she mostly just played her most popular hits - but hey, I like all of her songs and she's more about the show anyway. She is a great performer and if you get the chance you should go. I'll post some photos and videos soon.

Last night we saw the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and they were freaking awesome! there's just no other way to put it... Karen O's voice is out of this world and they played hit after hit after hit!

New Music LOVE

We saw Bat for Lashes yesterday at the SF Outlands festival and I had a full blown love at first sight experience. Or rather, love at first listen since Kate and I were too lazy to get up off the blanket we were on when the concert started so at first the only thing we saw were butts and joints being surreptitiously passed around. But when I heard this beautiful, AMAZING voice I had to get up and sway to the music. I love my new music crush.

This is a song from one of my favorite bands, Dead Can Dance. I was introduced to this band by my friend Carlos when we were seniors in highschool. This was when I was very into the Pixies and Jane's Addiction right before I started raving full time in the early 90's. I miss the days of lighting a candle in my room and feeling so achey. U.S. Air Guitar Championship

The U.S. Air Guitar Championship is making it's way to the area on June 26 & 27. Cody and I went a couple of years ago and it was actually incredible. I had expected it to be lame and cheesy, but sort of funny and was surprised to see that these guys really could (air) rock. The one we went to was in San Jose at whatever the latest variation of Fuel 44 was at the time and the club was packed with people. Cody and I managed to get drinks and squeeze our way through to the middle of the floor in time to watch the air-guitarists hit the stage. Each performer passionately rocks as hard as they can - and for the most part it looked like they were actually rocking harder than someone holding a physical guitar. It takes skill and a lot of practice to do air-guitar right and to give a performance worthy of the crowds awe. Some of the more advanced moves are the behind-the-head air guitar, the double neck guitar, the flying V (the hard part is making people see that you're playing a flying V that's invisible), and the double guitar solo. Here's Hot Lixx Hulahan, the Air Guitar Champion of 2008. He's REALLY good.
