bridesmaid dresses perhaps?
hannah and I went on a small shopping spree the other day at loehmann's, where I bought 1 dress + 1 scarf + 1 cardi + 1 fedora + 1 top + 2 tanks + 1 pair of trackies = $119 (love that) but, I digress....
don't get me wrong these would look fabulous on the right 5'10" skinny girl, but I guess there aren't too many of them around as they had plenty of these left on the racks...
while on the subject of talking about my wedding (or lack of one) we were delighted to find these lovelies... for those of you reading this that were born after 1986, you may not get my horror - but wow... 80's fashion just won't let go will it???
hands up how many of you had a dress just like this say oh about 20 years ago...? :P (mine was just like this blue one)

really scrabble???

OK, here's a nerd alert for you - I love scrabble! but hearing news this morning that they plan to 'change the rules to allow proper nouns' is just ludicrous! what is the point??

Regretsy
so, while I was resisting the urge to post the very graphic photo of a crocheted doll giving birth (I am listening to reason and not posting it and you should be very, very happy cause it was gross.) I came across this site regretsy where D.I.Y. meets W.T.F. and am now happily looking at other handmade goods that are equally disturbing. Please enjoy!

totally depressing...
I was asked to do a survey after visiting the apple store the other day and so I agreed (being in Marketing, I understand how these things can be helpful to a company) but then I came across this ghastly screen which made me feel very old all of a sudden... I am no longer in the 25 to 34 box... sigh

dumb surveys anyway...

mmm street meat
ok, so this is random, but I am totally craving street meat today - specifically a spicy italian hotdog with yellow (american style) mustard and lots of tomato sauce (or ketchup as it's known here) and a little bit of relish... yum!

when I was first introduced to street meat in Toronto, you couldn't pay me to eat from one of these little street vendors, serving hotdogs and cold drinks, from a little stall on the side of the road... I mean, how ever was that sanitary??? then one day I gave in, I guess I was hungover or starving or maybe it was because Bryce just kept pestering me to 'try the street meat'... so I finally agreed to taste one bite and then proceeded to eat half his hotdog - I was hooked! the way they slice the sausages and then char them on the grill it really is delicious!
So next time you're in Toronto - try the street meat! :)

I have always wondered about these guys...
You see these street performers at most tourist spots, covered in silver from head to toe including their clothing and shoes. their art is to stand still like a statue and extract money out of unsuspecting tourists who want their picture taken with them, or who want to make them move (kind of like the guards at Buckingham Palace), but I always wonder - do they just turn up with their silver and their little platform? and do they take all that stuff off before heading home??? well on Saturday I caught a little glimpse...

The Australian Prime Minister has been in the news this week, being called a "Camel Serial Killer" hope nobody tells them about the kangaroo meat I found in the meat isle of the supermarket...

My personal favourite - the Kanga Banga

Things Randomly Overheard
This was an overheard conversation with the creepy delivery guy who always fondles my hand when he hands me a package and constantly complains about how difficult his job is:
Overheard someone say to him, "This is your last week?"
And he said, "Yep, I've got to take care of me."

Australianophile
My obsession with Australians started when I was living in San Francisco and met my first Aussie at one of those after hours warehouse parties. We were both slouched together in a bean bag chair and ended up talking for a hours, telling each other every dirty joke we knew. He came over and helped me break into my little studio in the Mission (believe it or not, it wasn't because I lost my keys it was because the locks on the door were finicky) we lay on my futon mattress and I listened as he read my high school year book out loud in his best Crocodile Hunter impression. "It waaas the most daaan-gerous prom night in the woooorld" and right then and there I knew he was special. However, at this time in my life I was very, very fickle and his specialness quickly wore thin, what with the calling me for dates and all and wanting to spend time with me. We lasted about a month or so of him pursuing me and me not wanted to be tied down. Much to my surprise he got the clue, found someone who liked him back, and ended things with me. Naturally I was devastated and thus began the epic WALLOWING where I cried non-stop and couldn't stop obsessing about the love of my life (who's last name I don't even remember at this point) was gone forever and how he was never coming back to me. After several days of exhausting weeping I finally called my friend Taylor to come rescue me. I don't know what it was, probably the desperation that came through when I screamed "Save me!" and then threw the phone down, but Taylor literally leapt off the treadmill at 24 Hour Fitness and raced to my rescue. At this point I was so weakened from the wallowing that I didn't even have the energy to open the door for him. Fortunately Taylor had a key, so I didn't have to get up off the floor. This is how he describes the sadness that awaited him when he burst into the room: "You were laying on the floor all sweaty, wearing nothing but a pair of blue sparkle panties and a black turtle neck sweater. When you looked up and saw me you screamed, "WHY ARE YOU WEARING THAT HAT??" and started crying hysterically." In his rush to get to me Taylor had forgotten to remove his souvenir "Australia" hat from a recent vacation. After my rescue I recovered from my heartbreak, but had developed a crush on the Australian race and set out on a quest to discover new and exciting Australian friends.

poor little guys
For those of you that know me know I am a bit of a water conservationist, as most Australian's are these days... growing up on tank water, the 2 minute shower, watering the garden with the washing machine water and never letting a tap just run is totally normal to me. So when I got this email this morning I just had to share with you how precious water can be...
These photos were taken during the recent heat wave in South Australia and have apparently circled the globe via email. these little guys were actually approaching strangers begging for water which they usually get from the gum trees they live in. they are totally shy by nature.
