corners of my home

these peacock feathers were left over from when I made this mask and they sit on my desk near a window and catch the light - it's hard to capture the colour on film though...

Cake fight

My friend Ross's girlfriend Kasey is just the most adorable person! She and Ross have been dating for quite sometime and every time I get to meet her I love her just a little bit more. She's one of those people I admire because they're cool and creative and best of all they're really, really nice. She had these photos posted to her Facebook page and I have been wanting to recreate them with Kate - some sort of good old-fashioned girls fighting with cake party, but we haven't gotten around to it yet so I'm postings these originals from Kasey in the meantime. She and her friend picked up cakes from the grocery store, put on party dresses and party hats and went to town while another friend captured the awesomenss on camera. Does this not look like the funnest thing to do EVER?

really scrabble???

OK, here's a nerd alert for you - I love scrabble! but hearing news this morning that they plan to 'change the rules to allow proper nouns' is just ludicrous! what is the point??

'for the first time in nearly 62 years, popular word game Scrabble will change its rules to allow celebrity names and companies.

The decision, by games giant Mattel, will allow the celebrity, geographic and sports worlds to invade the most popular word game, as players would be permitted to use names like London, brand labels including Pepsi, and star monickers such as Jordan, Beyonce and Shakira.

Mattel has promised the new rules will be a “great new twist” to encourage younger players to take part. It is also considering allowing words to be spelled backwards and upwards on the board -- and the placing of letters unconnected to other words.'

happy friday!

I'm a little under the weather today, and am glad that the weather is cold and gloomy as I plan to snuggle up on the couch watching mad men with my wonderful husband-to-be who does wonderful things like brings me ice cream, makes me mac and cheese and is the sweetest man I know...

I hope you have a wonderful weekend with the ones you love and have a happy easter too!

Before and during...

We're not quite finished, but we're definitely more than halfway done. I think since I see it all the time and am always working on the house I don't see it's progress quite the way other people do, so when Kate said "look at your amazing pictures" I had no idea what she was talking about... until I saw her new post. So I started rummaging around my photos and found some before and durings to share so we can see the side-by-side evidence of what's been done so far... I guess it is pretty amazing.

demo is fun

the conversation went a bit like this:

Melita: we're going to Hollywood Farmer's Market next weekend, wanna come?
me: cool, where's that?
Melita: in Hollywood, LA
me: we really need to get stuck into the house, we keep going away and come back, look at the house and feel guilty about not getting anywhere...
Melita: that's how I feel everyday even with a hammer in my hand
me: you're crazy, you need to look at your before and during pics, you'll be amazed at your progress...

so here are some photos I took when we went to Melita's house in February, to remind her, how much they've actually done (oh and how silly we got at the end of that day)

we walked into this
girls with power toolsboys with hammers
then crazy people and the continuous shooting mode on my camera...

Bryce's Awesome New Goggles

Last night was "Ribs Wednesday" at the High Five Pizza Company which I may have mentioned to you in the past. This place serves delicious food and is fun to go to and is super close to my house. Sadly, I am a late bloomer when it comes to appreciating this restaurant which has apparently been a neighborhood institution for years, but I have only recently started going there. Anyway, last night we met up with Kate and Bryce to have ribs (we all had steak instead) and baked potatoes, and a couple of glasses of wine before heading back to our house to admire the progress we've made. I was still driving around with Bryce's birthday present in the back of my car so when they showed up he received this pair of awesome goggles: Happy birthday, Bryce! We love you!!!

happy birthday Olivia!

it's my dear friend Olivia's birthday today, yes she is an April fool - and I am sure never tires about hearing this every single birthday...

Olivia is married to Jon, who Bryce and I met in Toronto on a rooftop pub, one summery evening, and Jon and Olivia (both fellow aussies) met in Toronto at a lunch I was supposed to be at, but couldn't make... I think it was fate... it was pretty much love at first site, but they both played it cool for a while and we all hung out together having great times in Toronto, exploring, partying and playing buzz.

they were married in September 2008 in the most romantic scenic wedding in Tuscany and today Olivia is spending her birthday with a pregnancy glow that makes you want to puke! she is the most beautiful pregnant woman I have seen...

anyway my dear Olivia, I hope you have a wonderful birthday, that Jon (the gourmet) cooks you a fantastic dinner and that you get to sit on a lovely rooftop in New York and watch the world go by around you.

Miss you

Kisses
Kate

here we are on the canal in Venice (it was hard for me to find a photo of her without Jon stuck to her hip...)
