happy friday

today has been a busy but productive day to end a very busy week. I worked from home today to look after a precious little McKenzie who I had to take the vet this morning as she had a huge cyst come up on her belly (eewk!) she is currently sleeping in my lap with a cone around her cute little head...

Here's a photo I took earlier this week of the front of our house, the tree in the front was glowing yellow, and our whole front lawn is covered in yellow carpet...

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

photo love

pamela klaffke is one talented lady as near as I can tell... she is writer, with her first novel, Snapped, coming out at the end of this month. she is also the founder & chief curator of the secret society of analogue art but I really like her awesome photos that she takes using only expired film and analogue cameras. I particularly like this series called bestia parvulus (animal child) which for some reason reminds me of my childhood...

Classic Graffitti

My friend Emily shared this neat site and I thought I'd pass it along. Here is what classic art would look like with graffitti.

Garden Right

I will never give up on my dreams of having a luscious, overflowing vegetable garden. Even though I rarely step foot into my backyard and haven't successfully gardened ever (remind me to tell you about flunking out of Bilogy in high school and having to take Agriculture for my Science credits where out of the 10 vegetables I had to grow only 2 lived and then the stoners in the class before mine stole my lettuce) I am determined that this year is the year that I take control of my yard and turn it into Eden. I found this link after reading an article about Love Apple Farm in the San Jose Mercury News today. They supply many of the incredible local restaurants with their produce, sell seeds, and even have classes on gardening and raising chickens. I'm hoping to have tons of wonderful garden parties and cookouts this coming year and even making homemade preserves and jams.

Look what I found

while shopping for paint the other week I saw these cool paint trays that made me think 'duh, why didn't someone come up with this sooner???'

Kate's Secret Lover

goldstar.com

I thought I should share this site with you. If you're like me and you love to go see different theater and music events, you'll LOVE Goldstar. Last Saturday we took the whole family out to see "Santastic!" which was a really cute holiday sing-along elfy Christmas live music thing for half off the regular price. The only issue w/Goldstar is that you don;t know where your seats will be until you go pick them up at the box office of whatever venue you're at. We use them all the time and have never had bad seats though, and for the money you save it's totally worth it. Next on our Goldstar outings is OVO by Cirque du Soleil in December. Check them out for some great events at very cheap prices.

our other new house

We have been looking at campervans for a while (some more obsessively than others... Bryce) and last week we finally bought one
She's a 1982 VW Westfalia Vanagon complete with a double bed (2 actually) a fridge, a stove and a sink. The top pops up and it has a sunroof (talk about luxury), and when you're ready for bed the curtains wrap all the way round to make it super cozy and private.
It's a diesel engine that has been converted so you can run it on vegetable oil - we just need to go and make friends with the local hamburger joint, so we can get free fuel!
She needs some cleaning up and some interior decoration as the last guy that owned it was a bit of a self-professed artist and total hippy - but with some good ideas (like eat more kale)
and nicknamed her the Orange Blossom Special
We have plans to turn her from a greasy smelling, dirty mismatched hippy-mobile to a stylishly comfy home on wheels that can take us all over the country... I've already started crocheting a funky blanket for the bed :)
We took her out for her first trip to Portland for Thanksgiving on the weekend and had our first sleep over at Mt Ashland
How many hotels along hwy 5 give you views like this one!

how cute are these!

wouldn't you love to have brunch here?
