bay to breakers or bust

I can't believe that Bay to Breakers was already a month ago... where does the time go? well it was lots of fun, but not for the reasons that we discovered last year. this year we thought it would be a fun idea to take Cooper and McKenzie since they love going for long walks... so we drove up to the city just in time to get at the back of the crowd (since we didn't want to crowd the doggies)
and the familiar suspects were there
in their skimpy outfits, drinking to keep warm - it was freezing at this hour
I guess fashionably late is ok for this thing as there were still plenty of people getting across the starting line
and we were off for the 7 mile walk
the last of the floats was noisy
and someone didn't like the noise...
so we sat back and watched the crowd go by for a bit
we saw some clever costumes - this one was smart and they were dispensing wine too (at 8am)
this was my favourite costume though - Tiger Woods
we were amazed that the clean up crew were right behind the last of the crowd
but someone decided it was not cool... too noisy, too many drunk silly people too early...
so we watched them walk off to the breakers
and decided on plan b, and headed back to the bay :)
which was perfectly quiet and peaceful
and instantly they were happy again :)
we decided to walk our own 7 miles or so
Coop really wanted to get in the water at this point...
McKenzie thought he was nuts...
then we spied this tower in the distance, and thought we'd go check it out
look right or is that left? so confused these days...
and up the hill we trekked
the views were amazing
and then we found it - Coit Tower
then we headed back down the hills
to see what else we could find. we walked up some hills and down some more hills
and it turned out to be a fun day
at the end of the trip we came across a pet shop that Cooper dragged us into - McKenzie thought she found a shortcut... which of course I had to take photos of before getting her out :P
then back in the car
mission accomplished...
two tired pups

oh yeah there's a give-away...

oops - I got so caught up with other things I forgot about the give-away... ok who wants it?

we'll be drawing a winner on Saturday so you have until Friday at midnight California time to get your entries in :)

details on how to enter here and read about how the whole thing came about here

friday flower

I snapped this shot last Friday on my drive home from work, and when I saw it this morning I had to share it. Hannah bought me these gorgeous flowers for my birthday (along with the most awesome electric juicer, which is invaluable with all the oranges and lemons we have at our place...) anyway I was driving them home with the top down in my car (yes Dad, I was stopped at a traffic light...) and the lighting was well - you can see :)

are these dahlias or chrysanthemums? anyone?

bridesmaid dresses perhaps?

hannah and I went on a small shopping spree the other day at loehmann's, where I bought 1 dress + 1 scarf + 1 cardi + 1 fedora + 1 top + 2 tanks + 1 pair of trackies = $119 (love that) but, I digress....

while on the subject of talking about my wedding (or lack of one) we were delighted to find these lovelies... for those of you reading this that were born after 1986, you may not get my horror - but wow... 80's fashion just won't let go will it???
don't get me wrong these would look fabulous on the right 5'10" skinny girl, but I guess there aren't too many of them around as they had plenty of these left on the racks...

hands up how many of you had a dress just like this say oh about 20 years ago...? :P (mine was just like this blue one)

the birthday gifts just keep on coming...

happy friday!

this was a short week for me with the long weekend and all, but I feel like I packed a 5 day work week into 4 days, so I'm totally ready to dive into this weekend! we're off to sit on a patio and drink cocktails and eat tapas - YUM!

this weekend Bryce is taking me to Wicked in the city for my birthday and we're going to the Sunset celebration weekend on Sunday, which should be lots of fun.

what are you getting up to?

marriage proposals these days...

you've got to admit it must be hard for guys trying to come up with inventive marriage proposals these days - I mean with proposals like this going round, they've got to be feeling the pressure...

krispy kremes - what's the deal?

I got this sent to me at work today...I just don't get the Krispy Kreme thing... I mean they're ok, but I've heard people describe them as being 'as addictive as crack cocaine' is there something wrong with me?

what's in your netflix queue?

bryce and I are cutting off our cable television. we've been saying it for a while now - it's such a waste of money for us since we don't watch that much tv. at about $100 a month you'd expect some good television, but whenever we sit down to watch something there is never anything on all those 800 channels...

so, with a combination of hulu, abc.com and netflix we can watch everything we want at the time we want. we can pause it. rewind it. watch again. if we want to. I also downloaded boxee the other night, but haven't played around with it too much. so to me it seems like a no-brainer...

I was tidying up my netflix list this morning and wondering if anyone has any recommendations for must watch movies I should add to my queue?

Letterboxes

I just heard about letterboxes today and thought it was the coolest thing! Letterboxing is the hobby that combines art, puzzle solving, and orienteering. Basically letterboxes are small, weatheproof boxes that are hidden somplace public like a park or mueseum and clues to their location are published in a catalog or on a website. The letterbox has a notebook and a stamp inside and the person who finds it uses their own stamp to leave an impression in the notebook and takes an impression from the found stamp. Here's an example of the stamps and pages from Simon Litton's letterbox journal
There are quite a few places in the Bay Area to hunt for letterboxes - maybe I need a new hobby and should start collecting stamps.

anthropologie birthday treat

the people over at anthropologie do know how to make you feel good for your birthday...
they sent me this little card that gives me 15% off anything in their store and the little candle doubles as a necklace...
this is what they sent me last year. all you have to do is be a member of their anthro club (which is free) and gives you all sorts of benefits :)
